It was another great adventure for me but this would be my Sister’s first time out of the country. Hang on cowgirl she’s bustin’ loose. I think she had a really good time. Now she’s talking about a sailfish fishing trip to Costa Rica. Smile.

Our 3 ½ week trip started with a stay at the Orange B&B outside of Dallas (our cousin’s home). Our stopover in the Dallas area was lots of fun. Catching up with our cousin Jan(et) and her husband Bob but also going to the Fort Worth Zoo and touring Texas Motor Speedway.

Dallas was the perfect place for us to meet up before flying out of the country. This helped to assure that flight delays wouldn’t keep us from being on the same plane when it took-off for Belize City.

Once we cleared immigrations and customs we immediately caught a flight on Maya Island Air to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. We had booked our flight online before the trip to avoid missing the last flight of the day. We later flew to Flores, Guatemala with Maya Island Air.

After returning to Belize we rented a car from Budget Rental Car for the final 2 weeks. Every leg of our trip went smoothly. All 8 flights and the car rental!

The biggest and largest number of cruise ships are in Belize City port on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Let this be a guide for planning things to do. We found that things like zip-lining, the zoo, and, snorkel trips were far less busy and a much more pleasant experience on the weekends when less tourists are around. However, we found that souvenir shopping was mostly closed on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It was even more difficult to find a guide for cave tubing on those days. As far as caving tubing goes, get there before 9:00 AM on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. You will beat the tour buses and there will be plenty of guides.

  Travel tip: Acidophilus
I have traveled extensively in foreign lands and while I’ve never had a really full blown case of traveler’s diarrhea I have always had a few days of discomfort and just not feeling quite right on virtually every trip. This time we tried taking shelf-stable acidophilus and neither of us felt any discomfort at any point over the 3 ½ weeks we were gone. I’ll be packing this stuff on all of my trips.
